HOW TO STAY STRONG IN SOBER OCTOBER

We’re a week into Sober October and though your body may be cleansing itself, you’re mind is gently screaming “I NEED ALCOHOL…NOW!”

It’s tough, but we’ve got you.

Rather than running to your nearest bar and demanding DRINK, let’s look at some ways to get you through this tough time.

MAKE MINE AN APPLE AND CINAMON FRAPPUCCINO

Just because it’s a dry month doesn’t mean you have to only drink water.

There are some cracking non-alcoholic lagers out there. No, not Becks blue, that’ll only make you miss booze more. You can’t go wrong with an alcohol-free German wheat beer. When it’s served cold and in a stein, it’s virtually impossible to tell the difference.

You can also retrieve that blender gift you’ve shoved to the back of cupboard and start experimenting. Have a play with different juices, smoothies or shakes for a healthier alternative to alcohol. 

When all else fails do the only thing us Brits know how to do best…make a brew.

 

CAN’T TONIGHT GUYS, I’M GOING POWERWALKING

Ok, so perhaps not powerwalking. If you’ve seen the Olympic sport on TV you’ll agree in saying it’s ridiculous.

But a new hobby or sport can be a great way to distract you from reaching for a bottle.

Who else has wanted to try what sounds like the very safe activity of reservoir swimming?

BOOZE HIDE AND SEEK

Sometimes the simplest methods are the best, meaning if you can’t see your booze, you’re less likely to be tempted by it. Out of sight, out of mouth.

If you want to go one step further then clear all alcohol outside your house before your detox. Lol. Good one.  

 

GO ON, YOU’VE EARNED IT

No, this doesn’t mean giving up the month early. Being on the wagon can have more than just physical and mental benefits; you’ll save a fair amount of cash too.

Think of the number of times you of you woken up to find your bank balance significantly lower.

Whether it’s saving for a holiday or a new pair of shoes (LINK TO SHOES) put the cash to something that’ll last for more than one night.

 

I’M NOT FUCKING GOING IN THERE PAL

It may seem obvious but not putting yourself in an environment where others are drinking can be very effective. There’s nothing worse than watching others enjoying life while you’re sat as sober as a monk.

However, there’s fat chance you’re going to stop your friends from going down the pub for the whole of October. As a compromise, why not suggest doing something that doesn’t involve drinking. Apart from a café or bowling, we’re actually struggling to come up with any alternatives.
